Hello Everyone,

This is the first official blog for our class! Please read the entire post because there is a lot of information.

Here are the syllabi and blog assignment for this semester. Click on them to download.

Fall 15 MM Blog Assignment

Fall 15 MM Monday Syllabus

Fall 15 MM Wednesday Syllabus

Within the next day or so your TA should send you an introduction email with some details about the work. If you did not receive one, check your spam and other email accounts because you may be registered with one via Brooklyn College. If you still have not received an email, contact your IN-CLASS TA (Frieda or Charles) and they will help you out.

Readings & Blog Assignment – due BEFORE 12pm, week 2:

  1. Readings: Please have Rodman’s Mass Media In Changing World: Chapters 1 & 2 read for class.
  2. Blog Assignment(s):
    1. Please read and react to these two articles (click on them to download) Stand-Up Comics Have to Censor Their Jokes on College Campuses – The Atlantic and How Trigger Warnings Are Hurting Mental Health on Campus – The Atlantic
      1. Do you agree? Disagree? Understand what is happening? Give your opinion. DON’T FORGET THE WHY you agree or disagree.
      2. USE THE ARTICLES in your blog post – VERY IMPORTANT!
    2. #GetUnProductive – as a SECOND blog post, show yourself at your most unproductive… you can upload a photo or a video. Get as creative as you want or as simple as you want. Your call completely. This is to have fun! Enjoy it.
  3. Bring the book and articles to class (or bring notes about the articles) so we can discuss.

Other Info:

Monday – our next class is THURSDAY, SEPT 10th because of a conversion day. So your first blog post is due THAT day. When it’s a Monday meeting, your work is due on MONDAY. Week 2 is Thursday before 12pm.

Meetings with me: I am VERY accessible via email, meetings, etc. If you have concerns, reach out. But also, speak to your TA, they did rock this course! If you would like to make an appointment, check my office hours and send me an email.

TV & Radio BA Major? You should email me at tvr.undergradchair@gmail.com

If you are a Broadcast Journalism Major – email Professor John Anderson at john@diymedia.net

That’s about it!

Have fun this semester, enjoy it, and I think it’s gonna be a good one!

Best of luck,

Professor Dunphy
