1165 – Next Few Classes

Start here

Hello Again 1165!

It’s been a few so I wanted to send a reminder and a heads up on some of the work coming up.

Our next class is Wednesday, Feb 22nd. Your work is here:

For the next few classes, see below. It’s a lot because it’s a month’s worth of stuff, so read it or don’t. I’d take advantage of it but that’s me.

I will re-send these again but those who want can do them earlier.

Wednesday, March 1st

Readings: Newspapers & Magazines from Rodman’s text

Satire’s Brew – Origins – Shadows of Forthcoming Events (required)

Blog Assignment: due by 12pm, March 1st

Using Satire’s Brew’s Origins Chapter and GoComics.com:

Select ONE cartoonist from the left, the right and the center = 3 cartoons/cartoonists total.

Put the cartoons on your blog too!

Use the REQUIRED Satire’s Brew text/ideas and any other info to react to the cartoons.
Do you agree, disagree? Do you understand the cartoon? The points the cartoonist are trying to make? Do they make them effectively? Do you have any other reactions? Any other thoughts?
To the book itself:
Any thoughts on Beck? The philosophy? The character’s journey in the chapter? Emotional Collateral? What about Thomas Nast? Have you heard of him before?
What would Nast say about today’s society? The two political parties? The President?
What happens at the end and what do you think will happen after the chapter ends?
TOTAL Word Count: MINIMUM 1000 to 1200 words
Extra Credit Opt: Expand the work by 2x and write a minimum 2000 word post. Include a few more cartoons from your cartoonists. Really go to town here.
Extra Credit is earned not guaranteed.

MAKE UP CLASS for April 19th – as it says on syllabus.
If you cannot make the class please message your TA ASAP.
The class & work are required but I know you may have WORK (try and switch 🙂 .) If you have class, send your TA a copy of your schedule for the absence, so we can figure out what to do. Your blog work will still be due by 12pm that day.
Our next class will meet on Wednesday, March 15th and discuss Rodman’s FILM chapter at the regular day, time, and location. I will send out a blog assignment after the exam.
Extra Credits: All due on your blog BEFORE Week 13
Remember: Extra credit is earned, not guaranteed.
