1165 Week 6 – Film

Start here

Hey All,

Your first exam is done. WOO HOO!

You will get your exam and quiz back at the end of class 6, Wednesday, March 15th.

Remember, we have that make-up class on Tuesday the 14th and a blog assignment.

I know it’s a lot in a week but you had plenty of notice on OK Computer.

For next week, class 6:

Read Rodman’s Film chapter.

Your Blog Assignment(s) is as follows:

There are two blogs due but you can combine them into ONE blog. If you combine the two films, the word count needs to be hit if you add them together.

See the word count below:

Blog 1 – Gattaca – 500-1000 words

Blog 2 – Pump up the Volume – 750-1000 words

Combine both films into ONE Blog (optional) – 1500+ words.

Either you do two blogs or one – your choice. Savvy?

Just realized, we are doing a bunch of 20 years anniversaries this semester! WOO!! I’m old. I know.

Both (or the combined blog) are due by 12pm Wednesday March 15th.

Blog 1:

First and foremost!! Hope you liked the movie! The future. Amiright? How depressing.

For the film GATTACA (1997) a personal favorite, directed by Andrew Niccol.

Did you like it, why or why not. Which characters did you like? Why? Always think of why.

If released today, would this movie work? Give me reasons. Anything else you want to add? Go for it! Use Rodman’s text or anything else so far in the semester if you want.

The only unacceptable answer is: I don’t like/watch these kind of movies.

I don’t like romantic comedies yet I saw Sleepless in Seattle. And it’s so good.

Blog 2:

Your TA will send you the link to access the film, if you haven’t received the film by Thursday, March 9th, contact the TA.

React, review, use Rodman’s Chapter 2 on Pump Up the Volume.

There are several theories in chapter 2, see if you can get them or maybe even surprise me on some! This is required.

But also a review and give some reactions… be honest… if you loved it — try to figure out why. If you hated it — why.

Word Count: 750-1000+

The film will be sent in MP4 format, so you can watch this on your iPhone, iPad, etc. It’s about 1 hour 40 minutes.

Looking forward to lecturing on BOTH films next week.

Congrats on finishing your first exam!

See ya’ll Tuesday night!!

Professor Dunphy
